This is a check-up for women of all common possible ailments, and especially those ageing. The risk of heart disease is checked, so also problems in liver, lung, and kidneys.
However, unlike programs available to others, it also checks for diseases specific to women.
Examination of pap smear has been shown to identify women who may develop cervical cancer. Postmenopausal women are 9 times more likely to get fractures of hip or spine. Once they get fractures, women lose their independence and mobility is severely hampered. Bone mineral density measures accurately predict the risk of impending fractures and preventive measures can be instituted in time. Clinical examination will check for any obvious abnormalities. Breast examination by an expert female Surgeon will identify women who may be referred further for mammography.
